The day began with a new exercise that I developed myself. I call it “The First Brushstroke Is Always the Best.” It is a simple but quite challenging exercise, where the idea is to trust the first brushstroke rather than trying to improve it afterwards. And the results were actually surprisingly good!
The cold and rainy weather meant that we decided to stay inside the studio rather than head outdoors to paint. Our subject for the day was a landscape with trees and reflections in the water – a motif that offered plenty of opportunities to work with reflections, light and more expressive brushstrokes.
